ABOUT THE PROGRAMME

Governance Tested Under Pressure

The Boardroom Challenge is a two-day immersive simulation in which participants serve as the board of a fictional GCC-listed conglomerate facing a governance crisis. The information they receive is the same a real board would receive. The pressures are the same. There is no script, no pre-determined outcome, and no right answer handed to them. They must read the signals, challenge the executive team, and make the decisions that a functioning board would make.

By the end of the programme, participants will be able to:

Identify Early Signals

Identify the early financial and governance signals that boards routinely miss.

Raise & Challenge Decisions

Raise concerns and challenge decisions under genuine pressure, not in theory.

Lead Through Live Crises

Lead their way through a live crisis involving regulators, media, and board succession.

NEDA Membership

All participants receive one year of NEDA Premium membership, including access to the NED Handbook (6th Edition),
ongoing development resources, and a professional network of board members committed to governance excellence.

HOW IT WORKS

Two Days Inside a Governance Crisis

WHO IS THIS FOR

For Directors Who Want to Be Tested, Not Taught

New and
Aspiring NEDs

Who want to experience the pressures of a board seat before they take one.

Experienced
Directors

Looking to sharpen instincts, stress-test decision-making, and experience governance pressure in a controlled environment.

Corporate Academies
& Board Programmes

Organisations running board evaluations or preparing board-ready executives.

Family Business
Governance

Enterprises transitioning to professionally governed boards. The simulation surfaces family dynamics, dual roles, and the courage to challenge.

We Would Love to Hear From You

Most of our work begins with a conversation. This is a good place to start one.

The Boardroom Challenge Form
ALSO DELIVERED WITH NEDA

The NED Certificate Programme

The NED Certificate Programme builds the foundational knowledge: governance law, board codes, legal duties, and the structured sequence for challenging management. The Boardroom Challenge tests whether that knowledge holds up when the pressure is real.

Many organisations commission both. Others use the simulation as a standalone intervention for experienced boards.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who is NEDA, and why does the partnership matter?

NEDA is the global professional body for non-executive directors, trusted by leading global organisations. Emile Woolf Middle East is the exclusive GCC delivery partner, delivering NEDA governance programmes fully localised for the regulatory frameworks and board structures of the Gulf.

What does the programme cover?

GCC governance law and codes across all six jurisdictions, NED legal duties under UAE and KSA law, the board's five roles and governance pillars, the art of challenge, strategy and AI in the boardroom, stakeholder mapping, risk appetite, the seven GCC board risks, audit committees, going concern, Islamic finance governance, board effectiveness, crisis management, ESG, and family business governance.

How long is the programme?

Two days, delivered in-person across the GCC or virtually.

What is the group size?

Up to 20 delegates per cohort.

Is assessment required?

No. Assessment is optional. It is a 30-question, open-book, timed online assessment with a 70% pass mark. Participants have 12 months to complete it. NEDA membership and the NED Certificate are awarded to those who pass the assessment.

What is included in NEDA membership?

Participants receive a one-year NEDA Premium membership. It includes the NED Handbook (6th Edition), access to NEDA events, training discounts, premium insights, the NED CV builder and review service, coaching and mentoring, and the members' jobs board. In short, the resources, network, and continuing development that support a director throughout their board career. Learn more about NEDA membership →

What happens to NEDA membership after the first year?

The first year of NEDA Premium membership is included with the programme. After that, participants can renew directly with NEDA at the standard annual renewal rate to retain access to the handbook, events, insights, and the wider membership network. Renewal is individual and optional.

Can the programme be delivered as a closed cohort for our organisation?

Yes. We deliver the programme for organisations, regulators, corporate academies, and family business groups. Use the contact form above.

Is the programme delivered in-person or virtually?

Both. Delivered in-person across the GCC or virtually, and can be customised to your organisation's requirements.

Do you deliver in Arabic?

Yes. We deliver in Arabic, English, or bilingual formats depending on cohort composition. Written materials are available bilingually on request.

Where do you deliver?

In-person across the GCC, principally Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Riyadh, Jeddah, and Doha, with hybrid and virtual formats for distributed teams.

What does it cost?

Corporate and institutional pricing depends on cohort size, format, and the depth of customisation required.

How does this relate to the Boardroom Challenge?

The NED Certificate builds foundational governance knowledge. The Boardroom Challenge tests whether that knowledge holds up under real boardroom pressure. The two are complementary and many organisations commission both. Learn more about the Boardroom Challenge.
